(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
