The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
