The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
