We sent an inspiration to Moses: "Travel by night with My servants, and strike a dry path for them through the sea, without fear of being overtaken (by Pharaoh) and without (any other) fear." 77 Then Fir'awn followed them with his hosts; and there came upon them of the sea that which came upon them. 78 For Pharaoh had led his people astray and did not guide them. 79 O ye Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a Covenant with you on the right side of Mount (Sinai), and We sent down to you Manna and quails: 80 “Eat the good clean things We have provided you, and do not exceed the limits in respect of it causing My wrath to descend upon you; and indeed the one on whom My wrath descended, has fallen.” 81 but to whosoever repents, believes and does good deeds, and is at last guided, I am Forgiving' 82 ۞ And what hath made thee hasten from thy people, O Musa? 83 He said: They are here on my track and I hastened on to Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be pleased. 84 Said He, 'We have tempted thy people since thou didst leave them. The Samaritan has misled them into error.' 85 Then Musa (Moses) returned to his people in a state of anger and sorrow. He said: "O my people! Did not your Lord promise you a fair promise? Did then the promise seem to you long in coming? Or did you desire that wrath should descend from your Lord on you, so you broke your promise to me (i.e. disbelieving in Allah and worshipping the calf)?" 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested. 87 then he forged a calf for them -- an image producing a lowing sound. They said, "This is your deity, the deity of Moses; he has forgotten it." 88 Did they not consider that the calf could not give them any answer, nor it could harm or benefit them? 89
