The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
