Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 And now I fear my kinsfolk after I am gone; and my wife is barren. So give me, from Thee, a kinsman 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
