The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the much-visited House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 and the sea that is full 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
