Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
