The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Indeed We have sent down the Qur’an, and indeed We Ourselves surely are its Guardians. (This is one of the miracles of the Qur’an – no one has been able to change even one letter of its text, despite every effort. It has remained in its original form since the 6th Century (A. D) and will remain so forever. Other Holy Books such as the Torah and the Bible have lost their originality.) 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
