The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
