Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
