Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
