(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
