Indeed We sent Moses with Our Signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He told them: “I am a Messenger of the Lord of the Universe.” 46 But when he brought them Our signs, lo, they laughed at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said, 'Sorcerer, pray to thy Lord for us by the covenant He has made with thee, and surely we shall be right-guided.' 49 But whenever We removed the suffering from them, lo! they would break their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Aye! I am better than this one who is despicable, and well-nigh cannot make himself plain. 52 Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? 53 Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah). 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 And We made them a precedent (as a lesson for those coming after them), and an example to later generations. 56
