The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
