Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
