Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
