The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
