He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
