And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor any loving friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
