Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
