The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
