So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
