The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
