۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, “Indeed you all you and your forefathers were in open error.” 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
