Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 Doth he promise you that you, when ye are dead and have become dust and bones, will (again) be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 Allah said: after a little while they will become regretful. 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time their messenger came to a people, they rejected him. So We destroyed them one after the other, and let them become mere tales. So away with the people who will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they denied them both [Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)] and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture, that they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
