Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
