The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
