The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By [the winds] that pluck out vehemently 1 By the angels who release with gentle release. 2 By the lone stars floating, 3 by the angels who hasten along 4 And direct affairs by command, 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 to be followed by further [convulsions]! 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They said, “So this return is an obvious loss!” 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 and hastily turned away, 22 Then he gathered and cried aloud, 23 Then he said: I am your lord, the most high. 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
