The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
