The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will now call the guards! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
