Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
