The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
