Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 By the receding night 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 Except those of the right hand 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 From the guilty. 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
