The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And the swollen sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
