He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
