He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
