Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
