Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
