The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
