(O Muhammad), recite in the Book the account of Abraham. Most surely he was a man of truth, a Prophet. 41 who asked his father, "Father, why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor help you at all? 42 Father, knowledge has come to me which has not come you, therefore, follow me. I will guide you to a Level Path. 43 O My father! worship not the Satan; verily the Satan hath been unto the Compassionate a rebel. 44 "O my father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allah) overtake you, so that you become a companion of Shaitan (Satan) (in the Hell-fire)." [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi] 45 His father replied, "Abraham, are you telling me to give-up my gods? If you will not stop this, I shall stone you to death. Leave my house and do not come back again". 46 Abraham said, "Peace be with you. I shall ask my Lord to forgive you; He has been gracious to me. 47 I shall withdraw from you and all that you call upon beside Allah. I shall only call upon my Lord. I trust the prayer to my Lord will not go unanswered." 48 So when he had separated from them and what they worshipped other than Allah, We bestowed him Ishaq and Yaqub; and We made each of them a Herald of the Hidden. 49 and We gave them of Our mercy, and We appointed unto them a tongue of truthfulness, sublime. 50
