Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
