The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
