The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
