The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
