And verily Yunus was of the sent ones. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Will you not, then, bethink yourselves? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
