(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
