[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
