۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 Are we not then to die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
