The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
